Description
Be warned. A dog affectionately known as Hannibal Lecter by neighbours was poisoned in his front yard earlier this week in an attack that left his distraught owners puzzled.
The killing of the dog, often muzzled hence his nickname, may have been the result of a bungled attempt to burgle the two-storey house in Ma Po, Mui Wo, they suggest.
The householder heard rattling at the gate and when he went out to investigate, a Chinese male in a black T-shirt ran off.
He did not realise the man had tossed poisoned meat over the gate which was immediately gobbled up by Hannibal.
He was rushed to the SPCA in Wanchau but died a couple of days later.
The householder's son thinks the man may have rattled the gate to check if anyone was in prior to a spot of thieving. His father was indoors at the time and the door open but the radio, which is almost always on, was silenced.
